The Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) was established in 1966

To provide safe, decent, and affordable housing to residents of the City of Gainesville and Alachua County. Over nearly six decades, GHA has evolved from a traditional public housing provider into a multifaceted organization that not only manages affordable housing but also builds community partnerships, fosters resident opportunity, and strengthens neighborhoods.

Today, GHA directly serves 1,704 families through its core programs, including 422 residents in public housing and 1,282 participants in the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program. Through its nonprofit arm—the Gainesville Housing Development and Management Corporation (GHDMC)—the agency also develops and manages additional housing, giving it flexibility to expand opportunities and diversify revenue.
